Ladies’ night on “Dancing With the Stars”: Jane Seymour inspires

From: The Mercury News

It was definitely the best night of dancing on “Dancing With the Stars” with no clear standout but all the women — five of the 10 couples — scoring 26 or 27 out of 30.

The emotional highlight of the night was actress Jane Seymour’s tango. Seymour’s mother, Mieke Frankenberg, died last Tuesday and fans wondered if Seymour would be up to the task of taking on a new dance with limited time to practice. As Seymour put it, she planned to danced with the “passion, love and pride that I have in my mom and that she had in me.’’ She did, indeed, scoring three nines and leaving few dry eyes in the house.

Cheetah Girl Sabrina Bryan (27) danced the jive and was solid as usual — I’m not sure what she’ll have to do to score a 10, though I’m glad the judges haven’t yet doled one out.

Spice Girl Mel B (27) raised her game, dancing the jive with ease, joining Sabrina as player.

Marie Osmond (26 — but should have been 27!) danced the most creative and fun tango (great story-telling as always by Jonathon Roberts).

Actress Jeannie Garth (26), dancing the tango, easily could have been right up with the rest.

Maybe most surprising was IndyCar racer Helio Castroneves dropping from the top spot, scoring a mediocre 24, though it seemed the judges were being harder on him than some of the others who scored higher.

Then there were the rest of the guys:

Actor Cameron Mathison (23, but really deserved 24) had his best performance, with a fun play on the Superman/Clark Kent image that was bestowed upon him last week. His tango, this week, seemed a bit too peppy.

Boxer Floyd Mayweather (21) performed an energetic, but often flat-footed jive. The opening jump-rope display was incredible, though.

Billionaire Mark Cuban (20), dancing the jive, needs to stop “dancing with his face,” as judge Bruno Toniolli said, and start using his feet.

Then there was mega-entertainer Wayne Newton (18), dancing the tango. I think fans and the judges really want Newton to do well, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he were next to go.

Who do you think should go home next?

I only got to see a few of the dancers from last night’s show. I was anxious in seeing Helio and Julianne dance after their great performance last week. But their Jive was lacking something and their score showed it. But I voted for them still.

And how could you say anything bad about Jane and Tony? They danced very well and I am glad that she is continuing dancing in the show.

But the one that needs to go is Wayne. Like I said before, he may be Mr. Las Vegas, but a dancer he is not.
