My new favorite TV Show — Psych

As I am writing this, I am watching my new favorite TV show, Psych. I really didn’t get in watching it till the second season. But now, I just love watching it!psych

Psych is an American Comedy-Drama television series created by Steve Franks and broadcast on USA Network. The show stars James Roday as Shawn Spencer, a young crime consultant for the Santa Barbara, California Police Department (SBPD) whose “heightened observational skills” and impressive detective instincts allow him to convince people that he is psychic. The program also stars Dulé Hill as Shawn’s best friend, straight man, and reluctant partner Burton “Gus” Guster, as well as Corbin Bernsen as Shawn’s captious father, Henry.

I just love watching Shawn using his “psychic” skills. And Guy just cracks me up when he runs screaming like a little girls every time he sees a dead body.

One of my favorite episodes was from Season 3 — “Murder? … Anyone? … Anyone? … Bueller?“.

At first, no one believes Shawn when he claims that a murder took place at his and Gus’s high school reunion, mainly because there’s no body. As he puts the pieces together, Shawn must also deal with his old flame Abigail (Rachael Leigh Cook), whom he apparently stood up back in high school, and shows a side of himself never seen before. Henry continues to try and reconnect with his ex-wife Madeline (Cybill Shepherd), and in the process show up at the reunion.

I knew all of the movies that Shawn was quoting. And that dance he did on the roof of the school was classic! The songs that were featured on the show, where some of the best from the 80′s:

Come On Eileen” by Dexy’s Midnight Runners
“If You Were Here” by the Cary Brothers
“Love Is a Battlefield” by Pat Benatar
“On and On” by The Longpigs
Don’t You (Forget About Me)” by Simple Minds

The only thing I wish they had again this season is The Big Adventures of  Little Shawn & Gus.

In a series of animated vignettes produced by JJ Sedelmaier, young Shawn and Gus explore the timeless mysteries of childhood. Even at a young age, Shawn’s brilliant powers of observation are already evident, as is his wise-cracking, irreverent approach to life. And young Gus is the same reluctant sidekick; slightly uptight at times, but always diligent when it comes to keeping things on track.

I’m just glad that USA Network plays Psych a couple of time during the week, that way I can watch my favorite show over and over again! Plus the theme song for Psych is “I Know You Know” by The Friendly Indians is pretty cool too!

Shawn-isims:

  • “My name is Shawn, and this is Scrooge Jones…”
  • “Gus don’t be a doughnut with pink yellow and purple sprinkles.”
  • “Gus, stop being a teenage kangaroo who’s still in the pouch”
  • “Howdy, I’m Shawn Spencer, psychic, and this is my life coach, Pepperjack McLove”
  • “Why don’t you trim that fingernail, Ming the Merciless.”
