TweetCamp San Antonio

Today I went to my very first social media event — TweetCamp San Antonio at Trinity University. I didn’t know what to expect but I was looking forward to learning something new. And I was going to be meeting up with my friends Charnell and Kevin, who were volunteering at the event.

TweetCampSanAntonio

TweetCamp is all about the microblogging fun, cool third-party apps and sharing the creative uses for our favorite Social Network.

Being new to the world of Twitter, I was glad to see some people there at the same skill level that I was at. I learned some new things on how to use Twitter and how I can make it work for me, both personally and for work.

I met some great people there. I was even in some sessions with two of the three organizers of the event: Jennifer Navarrete and Andi Narvaez. And I got to see Colleen Pence being interviewed by Charnell.

What I really liked about TweetCamp San Antonio was it is an UNconference.

… If you register for the event all you need to do is show up and see TweetCamp come to life in front of your very eyes.

All attendees are encouraged to contribute and participate. There are no session or workshops in the way we are used to thinking about them. YOU are the event (how very social media of us huh?) and we encourage you to share what you know, start discussions, ask questions and collaborate to make TweetCamp San Antonio happen and make sure that people get the most out of the event and its attendees.

Two things that Jennifer said in one session were:
… “it’s not too late to get started” and “Be that person”
Hearing those two things I think will help me get over the hump and start doing what I like to do.  Meeting people, blogging and doing something that is fun.
So I’m going to be looking for more social media events I can go to in San Antonio and add them to my calendar. Thanks to all who were involved with having TweetCamp San Antonio today!! This is just what I needed to get out of my box — comfort zone to enter the world of social media.
