Girlfriend and Sister’s Week

I got this from my cousin Jessica and thought I would share it here. Thanks Jessica!

Happy Sister’s Day!

Life is too short to wake up with regrets.
So love the people who treat you right.
Love the ones who don’t just because you can.
Believe everything happens for a reason.
If you get a second chance, grab it with both hands.
If it changes your life, let it.
Kiss slowly.
Forgive quickly.
God never said life would be easy.
He just promised it would be worth it.
Today is sister’s day, send this to all your sisters,
mothers, daughters, girlfriends even me if I am like one.

If you get back 7,
you are loved.
Happy Sister’s Day!

Girlfriend and Sister’s Week
I am only as strong as the coffee I drink,
the hair spray I use and
the friends I have.

To the cool women that have
touched my life. Here’s to you!
National Girlfriends Day
What would most of us do without our sisters, confidants and shopping, lunching, and traveling girls

Let’s celebrate each other for each other’s sake!

If you get this twice
you know you have more
than one girlfriend.

Be Happy!
It is good be a woman.

This was interesting…

You know how surprised I am when I get comments from people who read my blog. The other day, I got this one and I thought it was pretty interesting. Not sure what to think about it.

I think I will take it as something good… when you search for Sylvia Garza‘s you get to my blog!

I am a pastor in Des Moines, IA. Tomorrow at 2PM I am officiating a funeral service for a woman named Sylvia Garza. She was 46 years old. Her troubled family weren’t even able to provide obituary information so I was seeing if I could find anything online. That led me to your blog. Just thought I’d pass it along that there was someone else out there with your name who is now deceased. Kind of eerie. But you seem to be quite a bit happier and adjusted than she was. God bless.

Here are my latest most played songs on my iPod…

It’s been a couple of months since I blogged about the top songs played on my iPod. I have been playing my iPod more and more since I do not have my satellite radio anymore. As you can see by my list below, I have a very wide range of taste in music. Here are the ones that I have played the most.

More Than A Feeling” – Boston — probably my favorite classic rock song (plus I love “Scrubs” version of it too!)

Spend My Life With You” – Eric Benet & Tamia

Concrete & Clay” – Unit 4 + 2 — my favorite new song from 1965 that I heard a couple of months ago. I love the tambourine in this song — I want one!

Touch Me In The Morning” – Diana Ross — I think this is my favorite Ms. Ross song

Cupid Shuffle” – Cupid — my favorite chair/driving dancing song — “Down, down, do your dance, do your dance

You’re My First, My Last, My Everything” – Barry White — my favorite Barry White song

A Big Hunk O’ Love” – Elvis Presley — one of my top 5 Elvis songs (check out the YouTube video from Aloha from Hawaii (1973)

Rio” – Duran Duran — I love John Taylor!!

Thunder Road” – Bruce Springsteen — one of my top 5 Bruce songs

My Back Pages” – The Byrds — I didn’t know Bob Dylan wrote this song! Check out the YouTube video with Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, George Harrison, Neil Young, Tom Petty and Roger McGuinn (Live)

I’m Doing Fine Now” – New York City — this song os from 1973, don’t remember when I was growing up. I heard one day on the 70’s channel on Sirius and had to find it.

Mire Amigo” – The Hometown Boys — this is one of my favorite Latin songs.

Jump, Jive, An’ Wail” – The Brian Setzer Orchestra — if I could swing dance, this would be the song I want to dance to

Una Noche Mas” – David Lee Garza

When She Was My Girl” – The Four Tops — this is one of my favorite Four Tops song.

All of these songs have been played over 65 times. I have played “More Than A Feeling” — 98 times!

A laugh to start of the week…

These isn’t mine, I thought they it funny. Here’s looking a having a good start to the week!

A rabbit and a lion come into a bar together and order martinis. The bartender puts out a bowl of peanuts, a bowl of popcorn, and a bowl of pretzels, which the rabbit begins eating. The lion just sips his martini.

“What’s the matter?” asks the bartender of the lion.

“Aren’t you hungry?”

“Don’t be silly,” the rabbit answers. “If he were hungry, do you think I’d be sitting here?”

I didn’t say it was a classic!!

I did it again…

I had a very lazy Saturday afternoon… did a little laundry, took a nap and watch a horrible movie on the SyFy channel — MALIBU SHARK ATTACK.

(from Sci Fi’s press release, April 2009) “Malibu Shark Attack,” starring Peta Wilson – An underwater earthquake generates a tsunami that strikes Malibu and brings a hunting pack of prehistoric-looking goblin sharks to the surface. Although the beach is evacuated before the big wave strikes, a group of lifeguards and a crew of construction workers are stranded in the high water and have to fight the sharks to get to dry land.

This one was right up there with some of the worst movies I had to finish watching to see how it ended. Not sure why I made myself watch it? Was is the funny looking goblin sharks (yes, I did Google it, you learned something new every day!!)? Or the survivors attack the sharks with chainsaws — underwater? I have no idea? Maybe I watched it because of one of the actors in the movie, Warren Christiehubba hubba! He almost… almost made it bearable to watch.

I can’t wait to see what movies will be on tomorrow to watch. Because if there is a horrible movie to watch, I’ll be there to watch the whole thing!

Weird Al Yankovic — “You’re Pitiful”

I just saw this on one of the sites that I visit daily… (don’t judge me!!). This was the first time I ever saw this video.

Weird Al Yankovic wrote and performed, You’re Pitiful, a parody of James Blunt’s You’re Beautiful song. From what was on the website, James Blunt and his manager don’t like Weird Al’s take on the song.

In 2006, Yankovic gained James Blunt‘s permission to record a parody of “You’re Beautiful“. However, after Yankovic had recorded “You’re Pitiful“, Blunt’s label, Atlantic Records, rescinded this permission. The parody was pulled from Yankovic’s Straight Outta Lynwood due to his label’s unwillingness to “go to war” with Atlantic. Yankovic released the song as a free download on his MySpace profile, as well as his official website, and plays it in concert, since it was not Blunt himself objecting to the parody. — from Wikipedia

I have always liked Weird Al’s, here are some of the classics that I like:

My Bologna
“Another One Rides the Bus
Amish Paradise
Bedrock Anthem

I say if you can’t laugh at yourself, there is something wrong with you. So Weird Al, continue to write and sing all the parody you can!

Taco Bell - Gidget

Who could forget “¡Yo quiero Taco Bell!”

The Chihuahua that caputured fast food lovers’ hearts in her infamous Taco Bell ad campaign passed away on Tuesday. Gidget suffered a stroke at the ripe age of 15.

“She made so many people happy,” says Gidget’s trainer, Sue Chipperton, who added that the recently retired actor lived out her last days lying in the sun.

Gidget is just another one on the long lists of celebrities who have passed away this year.

R.I.P Gidget, R.I.P.

*If you are a fan of “Scrubs” you will know this saying.

How Not to Be Hated on Facebook: 10 More Rules

I have had a fun time reconnecting with old classmates and friends on Facebook. One of my friends, Jason, posted this link on Facebook today —

That Viral Thing
By Claire Suddath Tuesday, Apr. 21, 2009
… TIME would like to suggest these additional “electric friendship” guidelines:
1. Stop taking quizzes. Nobody cares what literary time period you are.
2. If you sync your Twitter account to Facebook so that you fill others’ news feeds with a constant stream of mundane updates and references to people with little @ symbols before their names, be prepared for people to de-friend you. Maybe even in real life. (Read “25 More Things I Didn’t Want to Learn About You On Facebook.”)
3. Don’t friend someone you don’t actually know
4. If you must friend someone you don’t know, include a message explaining why you are doing so. For example, “Hi, I’m your cousin’s roommate!” would suffice.
5. Actually, no. Why would your cousin’s roommate want to be your friend? That’s still weird.
6. Don’t invite people to events if they don’t live in your city. I’m glad you still live in our old college town, but guess what? I don’t. Even if I did, I still wouldn’t waste my Friday night listening to you play music at that vegan coffee shop I frequented when I was 19 because I couldn’t get into bars.
7. I’m sorry your grandfather died of emphysema, but I will not join your “cause.”
8. Make sure all your photos are rotated in the proper direction. How will people know how fun your Fourth of July barbecue was if every picture looks like you fell over?
9. If you create a group called “Lost my cell phone; need your numbers!,” I will join, but I won’t give you my number.
10. Cryptic status updates about your mental state — “Rachel is trying so hard,” “Rachel wishes things were different,” “Rachel is starting her life over” — don’t make you sound intriguing, just lonely and pathetic.

My favorites are #3  — I have gotten some friend requests and I haven’t gotten the foggist idea who they are.  Should I become their friend just because I don’t remember them or know them? I don’t think so. So if I got a friend request from you and haven’t replied… sorry.

#5 — I became a friend to someone I went to high school with and a couple of weeks later, my niece asked me who he was? I asked her why? He was trying to be her friend! What?? I told her to say “no” to his request and let me know if he bothered her. I really don’t need to be friends with my friend’s friends and I hope they wouldn’t try to “poach” my friends to have a high number of friends.

OK, that’s is my rant for the week.

Another great site from

Ever since I found the website, I have loved getting my weekly blog updates of the sites featured for the week. Here is one that I got last week — RunPee. After I visited the site, I thought what a great site. Because there have been many times that I had to go to the bathroom but was afraid that I would miss an important part of the movie. So now there is a site to help me out. 🙂

RunPee – Don’t you just hate it when you’re watching a movie and then get that sneaking sensation that you have to go and pee? RunPee tells you when is the best moment to run to the restroom while a movie is playing without you missing a crucial plot moment. Don’t worry; it will also fill you in on what happened during your absence. You get to see the movie at its fullest and enjoy a quick break for the restrooms.

For ease of use, RunPee recently released an iPhone app which lets you check the info instantly while in the theater. How cool is that?

TweetCamp San Antonio

Today I went to my very first social media event — TweetCamp San Antonio at Trinity University. I didn’t know what to expect but I was looking forward to learning something new. And I was going to be meeting up with my friends Charnell and Kevin, who were volunteering at the event.

TweetCamp is all about the microblogging fun, cool third-party apps and sharing the creative uses for our favorite Social Network.

Being new to the world of Twitter, I was glad to see some people there at the same skill level that I was at. I learned some new things on how to use Twitter and how I can make it work for me, both personally and for work.

I met some great people there. I was even in some sessions with two of the three organizers of the event: Jennifer Navarrete and Andi Narvaez. And I got to see Colleen Pence being interviewed by Charnell.

What I really liked about TweetCamp San Antonio was it is an UNconference.

… If you register for the event all you need to do is show up and see TweetCamp come to life in front of your very eyes.

All attendees are encouraged to contribute and participate. There are no session or workshops in the way we are used to thinking about them. YOU are the event (how very social media of us huh?) and we encourage you to share what you know, start discussions, ask questions and collaborate to make TweetCamp San Antonio happen and make sure that people get the most out of the event and its attendees.

Two things that Jennifer said in one session were:
… “it’s not too late to get started” and “Be that person”
Hearing those two things I think will help me get over the hump and start doing what I like to do.  Meeting people, blogging and doing something that is fun.
So I’m going to be looking for more social media events I can go to in San Antonio and add them to my calendar. Thanks to all who were involved with having TweetCamp San Antonio today!! This is just what I needed to get out of my box — comfort zone to enter the world of social media.
