Do you remember…

The movie The Car (1977) staring James Brolin? The plot of the movie was about “a sleek, possessed car terrorizes everyone it comes in contact with.” This movie reminds me of Stephen King‘s “Christine“. In today’s world, this movie would not be up the to standards of the horror movies out now.

The Car (1977)

Needless to say, this movie freaked my out when I saw it. I just didn’t understand how a car could terrorize people and chase/run them down like that. (I was only 11 or 12 years old when I saw this movies.)

All I really remember of the movie is: the car, people going to the cemetery to get away from the car, a woman getting killed by the car when it jumps through something and then giant cloud of smoke with a face in it at the end.

Even though it’s been awhile since I saw this movie, I did get some helpful survival tips from it.

  1. If you can avoid it, don’t drive through the deserts of New Mexico
  2. If there is nowhere else to hide, go to the local cemetery
  3. Don’t taunt a car that is trying to kill you
  4. Don’t play “chicken” with a Satan himself

What got me thinking about this movies are the new Dodge Charger. When I see them coming up from behind my in the rear-view mirror, it reminds me of the the “possessed car” and that awful sound the horn made after it killed someone!!

Now, I’m going to have to find this movie to watch it again. It might not have been one of the greatest of horror movies made, but after 32 years, it still has an effect on me!
