Song of the Week — Mona Lisa

There have been a lot of songs popping in my head lately. From the classic oldies to the coolest music ever from the 80’s. But I’ve had this song playing in my head for a couple of days. It seems to be my go-to song to whistle to.

Mona Lisa” (1950) by Nat King Cole. Maybe its because I recently watched the movie “The Freshman” and they played that song. Now I am on a mission to find the other artists, including Jim Reeves, Elvis Presley, Willie Nelson, Art Lund, Shakin’ Stevens, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, the Neville Brothers, and Nat King Cole’s daughter Natalie Cole, who have sung this song.

“Mona Lisa” is track #9 on the album The World Of Nat King Cole.

It was written by Evans, Ray / Livingston, Jay.

Mona Lisa, Mona Lisa, men have named you
You’re so like the lady with the mystic smile
Is it only ’cause you’re lonely, they have blamed you
For that Mona Lisa strangeness in your smile?

Do you smile to tempt a lover, Mona Lisa?
Or is this your way to hide a broken heart?
Many dreams have been brought to your doorstep
They just lie there and they die there

Are you warm, are you real, Mona Lisa?
Or just a cold and lonely, lovely work of art?

Do you smile to tempt a lover, Mona Lisa?
Or is this your way to hide a broken heart?
Many dreams have been brought to your doorstep
They just lie there and they die there

Are you warm, are you real, Mona Lisa?
Or just a cold and lonely, lovely work of art?
Mona Lisa, Mona Lisa
