Grease: Live

Well, I was one of the many million who watched Grease: Live over the weekend.

Grease is one of my favorite movies, so I was looking forward in watching the play version of the movie.

One performance that stood out for me was  Vanessa Hudgens as Rizzo singing “There Are Worse Things I Could Do“. Not only did she do an outstanding job singing the song, but she did so through a personal loss.

On the day of the broadcast, Vanessa Hudgens announced on Twitter that her father, Greg, had died from cancer the night before, and that she would dedicate her performance in Grease: Live to his memory. (from Wikipedia.com)

Here is Vanessa Hudgens version of the song.

And here is the version done by Stockard Channing.

Both versions are very powerful. But I have to go with Stockard Channing’s version.

And if you’re anything like me, here are the lyrics so you can sing them in your hair brush too.

There Are Worse Things I Could Do

There are worse things I could do
Than go with a boy or two
Even though the neighborhood

Thinks I’m trashy and no good
I suppose it could be true
But there are worse things I could do

I could flirt with all the guys
Smile at them and bat my eyes
Press against them when we dance
Make them think they stand a chance
Then refuse to see it through
That’s a thing I’d never do

I could stay home every night
Wait around for mister right
Take cold showers everyday
And throw my life away
On a dream that won’t come true

I could hurt someone like me
Out of spite or jealousy
I don’t steal and I don’t lie
But I can feel and I can cry
A fact I’ll bet you never knew
But to cry in front of you
That’s the worst thing I could do
