Where is Anne Murray?

Anne Murray is on my list of top artists that I like.

Anne Murray

Morna Anne Murray CC ONS (born June 20, 1945), known professionally as Anne Murray, is a Canadian singer in pop, country, and adult contemporary music whose albums have sold over 54 million copies worldwide as of 2012. (From Wikipedia.)

Here are some of my favorite songs by her.

Snowbird” (1970)

Her version of this song is the best. #2 would be Elvis Presley’s version.

Could I Have This Dance” (1980)
If I had ever gotten married, I would have liked to dance to this song.

Daydream Believer” (1980)

Danny’s Song” (1972)

You Needed Me” (1978)

Nobody Loves Me Like You Do” (duet with Dave Loggins) Video

Shadows in the Moonlight” (1979)
Such a 70’s song to sing to. I would have loved to see how people danced to this song when it came out.

Waldorf Salad

Waldorf Salad… I remember my mom making this when I was growing up. I really did like it back then. A “salad” made with fresh apples, celery, and walnuts, raisins, dressed in mayonnaise did not look very appetizing.

But as I got older, I learned to enjoy it and even make it myself.

Here is a little history of Waldorf Salad from Wikipedia.com

The salad was first created between 1893 and 1896 at the Waldorf Hotel in New York City (the precursor of the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel, which came into being with the merger of the Waldorf with the adjacent Astoria Hotel, opened in 1897).  Oscar Tschirky, who was the Waldorf’s maître d’hôtel and developed or inspired many of its signature dishes, is widely credited with creating the recipe. In 1896, Waldorf Salad appeared in The Cook Book by “Oscar of the Waldorf”; the original recipe did not contain nuts, but they had been added by the time the recipe appeared in The Rector Cook Book in 1928.

I had no idea that my mom was making such a historic salad all those years ago.

Here is the recipe that I learned from my mom and continue to use.

  • 2-3 chopped Gala Apples
  • Some chopped walnuts
  • Some chopped celery
  • Some raisins
  • Enough mayonnaise to pull it all together

As you can tell, it a very exact recipe.

The salad is even better the next day.

Guess I need to go to the store this weekend to pick up the ingredients for Waldorf Salad.

Here is another song that is in my iTunes library that I haven’t heard in a while. in 1987, the Fat Boys made a cover version of The SurfarishitWipe Out” with The Beach Boys singing back-up vocals.

I might have to put this song in my Summer 2016 play list. It’s been 19 years, but it’s still a classic!

Wipe Out by The Fat Boys

Heheheheheheee

For three years straight we toured the nation
When we get through we needed a vacation
We wanted to party and get a little rest
So we packed our things and headed out west
We got the surfboards took the beachball out
Jumped in a limosuine ready to “Wipeout”

Now we’re ready to go
Here we go here we go
One one two one two one two hit it D
Here we go

We got to California I said headed for the beach
There were girls galore all within our reach
There was sand and sun and lots of fun
But when we get there the fun really begun
So we cut on the box and started to shout
It was the Beach Boys rockin’ huh huh the “Wipeout”

Oo oo
Ooo ooo
Oo
Oo
Oo oo

Wa-ah-ah-ah wawawa-ooh-oo
Wa-ah-ah-ah wawawa-ooh-oo
That’s it, that that that’s it dit dit dit dit dit
Hit it D

The sun went down and the night began
We was rapping for the people cold chillin’ my man
We was partying hard making lots of noise
When around the corner came the real Beach Boys
So we all jumped up and started to shout
“Let’s all sing the song called the ‘Wipeout'”

Wipin’ out wipe out
Wipin’ out wipe out
Wah wah wah
Wipin’ out wipe out
Wipin’ out wipe out
Wah wah wah
Wipin’ out wipe out
Wipin’ out wipe out
Wah wah wah

R&B Song from the 90’s

If I Ever Fall in Love” (1992) by Shai.

How come I remember the words to songs from the 90’s, but I couldn’t tell you what I did last Wednesday.

You know…. Famous People Die in Three’s

“I smell cake.”*

WOW! What a past couple of weeks it’s been for the entertainment world. Actors and entertainers we grew up watching have been passing away.

I was getting ready to post something about Ken Howard, who died yesterday (22 Mar 2016), who starred in the TV show “White Shadow”.

But this afternoon, I read that comedian, Garry Shandling died at the age of 66.

I was a fan of his. I remember his show “It’s Garry Shandling’s Show.” There was one episode when Gilda Radner was on it. It was one of the funniest things I have ever seen on TV.

While fighting ovarian cancer, Gilda Radner guest-starred as herself on the show in 1988 in what would be her final television appearance. When Shandling asked her why she had not been seen on television for a while, Radner replied, “Oh, I had cancer. What did you have?” (From Wikipedia.com)

In these past couple of weeks, here are some other entertainers who gave dies:

March 23
Joe Garagiola, Sr., 90, American baseball player (Cardinals, Cubs, Pirates) and Hall of Fame sportscaster (MLB GOTW), World Series champion (1946).

March 18
Joe Santos, 84, American actor (The Rockford Files, The Friends of Eddie Coyle, The Last Boy Scout), heart attack.

March 17
Larry Drake, 66, American actor (L.A. Law, Johnny Bravo, Darkman), Emmy Award winner (1988, 1989).

March 16
Frank Sinatra, Jr., 72, American singer (That Face!) and actor (Hollywood Homicide), cardiac arrest.

I just can’t believe how many entertainers have passed away recently. At least the will live on with their performances for generations to come.

R.I.P.

* My brother, Joe and I would always say this to each other after someone famous died.

“I smell cake! If Uncle Bernie died, someone’s gonna have to go on a beer run!”— Dan Dorian

“My Cake” is the sixth episode of Scrubs’ fourth season. J.D.’s father dies and he and his brother Dan have to cope with it.
