Pita Nikolas Taufatofua

The 2016 Rio Olympics officially kicked off on Friday night with the opening ceremony. At Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro.

I didn’t watch all of the opening ceremony, but I sure didn’t miss when Tonga came out in the long parade of nations, Pita Nikolas Taufatofua, the flag bearer and an Olympian in taekwondo lead his country.

  • Taufatofua was born in Australia on 5 November 1983 and raised in Tonga.
  • He’s 1.91 m /6′ 3” — 100 kg / 220 lbs
  • He works at Sandgate House training homeless children to develop independent living skills.
  • He has an engineering degree and is working on his master’s degree.
  • He has also worked as a model since he was eighteen.
