Duran Duran in Concert

On Tuesday, April 19, 2016, I went to see Duran Duran with Chic – Nile Rodgers at the American Airlines Center in Dallas with my friend, Debbie.

She called me a couple of months ago to see if I wanted to go to see Duran Duran with. I said yes, I have always been a Duran Duran fan. So brought the ticket, I sent her the -money for the ticket and I made my travel plans to drive from San Antonio to Dallas for the concert.

Here are some of the pictures I took. Debbie was ale to get floor seating tickets, about 17 rows away from the stage.

Here are my favorite songs from the concert:

  Tribute to David Bowie

Opening act was Chic with Nile Rodgers.

Although he recorded three solo albums during the 1980s and 1990s, and one as part of the short-lived group Outloud, Nile Rodgers has found more success in collaboration as producer and performer with many artists including Sister Sledge, Diana Ross, Tina Arena, David Bowie, Duran Duran, Madonna, INXS, Britney Spears and more recently, Daft Punk, Pharrell Williams, Avicii, Disclosure, Sam Smith, Pitbull, Lady Gaga and Kylie Minogue.

Its commercially successful disco songs include “Dance, Dance, Dance (Yowsah, Yowsah, Yowsah)” (1977), “Everybody Dance” (1977), “Le Freak” (1978), “I Want Your Love” (1978), “Good Times” (1979), and “My Forbidden Lover” (1979).

Overall, it was a great time with my friend, Debbie and Duran Duran will always be one of my favorite bands.

Check out this picture that was on the Duran Duran Facebook page. Its a picture that Nick Rhodes took of the crowd.

Look at Simon’s left wrist. A guy with a blue shirt, follow that row to the left and back one row. I think that is me sitting there. I made it on a Duran Duran picture!!

What a great adventure to have with a friend that I’ve known since the 2nd grade!

What’s next?

Here is what Jeff Foxworthy has to say about folks from Texas…

If someone in a Lowe’s store offers you assistance and they don’t work there, you may live in Texas;

If you’ve worn shorts and a parka at the same time, you may live in Texas;

If you’ve had a lengthy telephone conversation with someone who dialed a wrong number, you may live in Texas;

Song of the Week — Come Unto Me

I heard the song “Come Unto Me” (2013) by The Mavericks (from their album, In Time) on the TV show “Dallas” (2012) season finale. I wasn’t quite sure who sang that song, but I must have listened to it a half dozen times.

After I found out who sung the song, I got on YouTube to find the video. After playing it, a half dozen times, I went to iTunes to buy the song and put it on my iPhone, iPad and iPod.

I have always liked liked The Marvericks and Raul Malo‘s voice. I didn’t know that The Mavericks broke up and just reunited… lucky us.

So thanks to the TV show “Dallas” for playing this song. I’m sure there are other fans of The Mavericks out there that are happy you picked that song.

Monday, Monday

Usually on Mondays, I post about my 2-cents worth of Dancing with the Stars. But today, there was a lot of stuff that happened.

First, this morning, I got an alert that Margaret Thatcher died at the age of 82. She was the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1979 to 1990. She was Britain’s first female PM.

Margaret Thatcher1

Margaret Thatcher (October 13, 1925 – April 8, 2013)

Then I got another text alert that Annette Funicello had died at the age of 70. She was popular “Mouseketeers” on the original Mickey Mouse Club. The as a teenager, she had a successful career as a singer with the pop singles “O Dio Mio,” “Tall Paul” and “Pineapple Princess“, then she became a film actress, staring in the “Beach Party” genre alongside co-star Frankie Avalon during the mid-1960s.

Annette Funicello (Young)

Annette Funicello (October 22, 1942 – April 8, 2013)

I remember her more from her movies. As a kid, I dreamed about being her and standing/singing next to Frankie Avalon. God, help me, but one of  my guilty pleasure movies is Back to the Beach (1987). How can you not get up and dance when you hear Annette Funicello & Fishbone sing “Jamaica Ska”.

Two women who had a major influence in history, in their own rights, passed away on the same day.

Tonight was also the championship NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Championship played in Atlanta, Georgia.

NCAA Basketball: NCAA Tournament-Michigan Practice

The teams plating were University of Louisville vs. University of Michigan. Since I was was born and raised in Michigan, I was rooting for Michigan. But since I lived in Louisville for three years, I wouldn’t have mind to see them win either. Louisville won the championship. So it was a draw on my part.

One of my favorite parts of NCAA March Madness is the ending of the tournament. it’s when CBS Sports plays “One Shining Moment” by Luther Vandross.

One Shining Moment” is a song written by David Barrett about the NCAA Men’s College Basketball Championship. One Shining Moment is traditionally played at the end of CBS Sports‘ coverage of the championship game of the tournament. The song is played as the winning team’s players cut down the nets, to a montage of highlights from the tournament. — From Wikipedia.com

Every time I have seen it, I tear up. I just love that song and  CBS Sports does a really great job with the video.

Thanks to ncaavideos2 for posting the video on YouTube.com.

So between these two show, I was also trying to watch Dancing with the Stars. Here are my picks for the night.

The team I liked and needs to win — Zendaya Coleman and  Valentin Chmerkovskiy

Zendaya Coleman and Valentin Chmerkovskiy - 2

The team that really needs to go home — Lisa Vanderpump and Gleb Savchenko

Lisa Vanderpump and Gleb Savchenko - 2

Best songs of the night:

Oh, I forgot, I was also trying to watch Dallas and The Voice during this time. My poor remote. Hopefully next Monday will be a little less crazy with no more basketball.

How was your Monday?

Oh great, another show to get hook on…

Did you see Dallas on TNT tonight? I wasn’t planning on watching the show. But I got all caught up in the trailers that they were showing all week. Then I found my pictures that I took on my road trip to Southfork Ranch in Parker, Texas with my friend, Debbie Meyer in 2009.

2009 – South Fork — the front gate in Parker, Texas

2009 – South Fork in Parker, Texas

Well, I’m glad I changed my mind and watches the 2-hour season premier.

Dallas (2012 TV series)

The plot of Dallas, 2012 series is:

The series revolves around the Ewings, a wealthy Dallas family in the oil and cattle-ranching industries. It will focus mainly on John Ross Ewing III, the son of J.R. and Sue Ellen Ewing; and Christopher Ewing, the adopted son of Bobby Ewing and Pam Ewing.[6] Both John Ross and Christopher were born during the original series’ run and were featured in it as children. Now grown, John Ross has become almost a carbon copy of his father, bent on oil, money and greed. Christopher, meanwhile, has become a lot like Bobby, in that he is more interested in the upkeep of Southfork Ranch, much like his father and his late grandmother, Miss Ellie. As an additional point of contention, Christopher is also becoming a player in alternative energy methane clathrate recovery. (from wikipedia.com)

The main cast of the show is:

  • Josh Henderson as John Ross Ewing III, the grandson of Jock and Ellie Ewing and the son of J.R. and Sue Ellen Ewing as well as the heir to Ewing Oil since his father is supposed to be President and CEO of Ewing Oil. John Ross is a carbon copy of JR.
  • Jordana Brewster as Elena Ramos, the daughter of the Ewing family cook, ex-girlfriend of Christopher Ewing and the current girlfriend of John Ross.
  • Jesse Metcalfe as Christopher Ewing, the adopted son of Bobby and Pam Ewing and the biological son of Sue Ellen’s sister Kristin Shepard and Jeff Faraday. Christopher is a carbon copy of Bobby.
  • Larry Hagman as J. R. Ewing, the eldest son of Jock and Ellie Ewing, the father of John Ross, and the rival of Cliff Barnes. JR is proud that John Ross is a carbon copy of him.
  • Linda Gray as Sue Ellen Ewing, J.R.’s first wife and the mother of John Ross.
  • Patrick Duffy as Bobby Ewing, the youngest son of Jock and Ellie Ewing and the uncle of John Ross.
  • Brenda Strong as Ann Ryland Ewing, Bobby’s current wife.
  • Julie Gonzalo as Rebecca Sutter Ewing, Christopher’s girlfriend (and later wife).
  • Callard Harris as Tommy Sutter, Rebecca’s brother.

(from wikipedia.com)

Right from the start of the show I was yelling at the TV screen. I was cheering for Bobby and Christopher. Then I was booing JR and John Ross. Then I was shocked with all of the twists and turns during the first 2-hours of the show!

I can’t wait to see the old cast on the show. Dallas wouldn’t be Dallas without Charlene Tilton as Lucy Ewing, Ken Kercheval as Cliff Barnes, and Steve Kanaly as Ray Krebbs,

But probably the best thing, next to seeing JR acting like JR was the opening credits of the show and the famous theme song from “Dallas.” It’s one of the best TV theme songs ever. (Click here to see the video of Dallas – Season 1 and 2 (1978-1979)

So, I’ll be in front of my TV next Wednesday to watch “Dallas” and cheer and boo my favorites on the show. Now if they would only bring back Knots Landing I would be a very happy, happy person!
