Congratulations to the Detroit Shock. The Shock has won its third WNBA title, and second in three years, by beating the San Antonio Silver Stars, 76-60, this afternoon in Ypsilanti.
The Shock went on a 14-0 run in the fourth quarter to beat the visiting Silver Stars, 76-60, and complete a three-game sweep of the WNBA Finals Sunday to earn their third ever championship. Katie Smith, who scored 18 points, earned Finals MVP.
The game was on ESPN2 and I was wondering about some of the comments that Doris Burke and Terry Gannon made during the game:
- Bill Laimbeer — (1) would he ever be picked to coach a NBA team? And way hasn’t the Pistons look into him as a coach? And (2) He’s on the last year of his contract, why hasn’t he signed or been offered an extension?
- Now that the Shock have won three WNBA Championships, does this make them a “dynasty”?
- Are Deanna Nolan and Katie Smith the BEST players in the league?
- What happened to Becky Hammon? She scored five points on just 1-of-10 shooting for the Silver Stars.
- Finally, Taj McWilliams-Franklin, who has been in the league since 1999 and on five different teams has won a championship.
In other Detroit news…
Lions mauled by Bears — The Detroit Lions lost to the Chicago Bears 34-7. I think the Lions might be going for the perfect “winless” season. Maybe that is their plan all along??
