How many of these do you remember?

I got this e-mail from an old dear friend, Helena and I wanted to pass it along. Thanks, Helena!

How many of these do you remember?

(The one’s that I remember are in bold).

1.  Blackjack chewing gum

2. Wax Coke-shaped bottles with colored sugar water – I tried those again a couple of years ago, they were terrible. How did I drink them when I was a kid?

3.  Candy cigarettes – I thought I was all cool “smoking” those cigarettes!!

4.  Soda pop machines that dispensed glass bottles

5.  Coffee shops or diners with tableside jukeboxes – I had a MEAN mother, she would give us any money to play songs, we had to sit there and just eat our food.

6.  Drug stores with soda fountains – I loved to sit at the counter and spin around and around on the stools.

7.  Party lines on the telephone

8   Newsreels before the movie

9.  P.F. Flyers

10. TV test patterns that came on at night after the last show and were there until TV shows started again in the morning. (there were only 3 channels…[if you were fortunate])

11.  Peashooters

12.  Howdy Doody – I was more of a Captain Kangaroo fan.

13.  45 RPM records

14.  S&H Greenstamps – I hated going to the S&H Greenstamp stores with my mom when I was little.

15.  Hi-if’s

16.  Metal ice trays with lever – There would always be a couple of stray ice cubes that would not come out.

17.  Mimeograph paper – Oh, I can still remember the smell and dampness of the paper.

18.  Blue flashbulb – no matter how much I knew better, I always touched the flashbulb after taking a picture.

19.  Packards

20.  Roller skate keys

Oh, those were the days!!

So Close

Man, I was so close to posting on my blog every day for the month of November!! I was playing around on my computer and watching TV yesterday and time just got away from me. Then when I looked at the clock, it was already the next day.

There is no rule that I have to post something every day, it was just something that I wanted to do. I like posting on my blog and I like hearing from people who read my blog — thanks guys! So I will finish out the month and post something and in December I will try once again to post something everyday.

Side Note:

Who knew??

From my previous post, I have been working on music list for my iPod. One if my lists is cover songs. Here is one song that I did not know was sung by someone else before. The song is “I Feel for You” by Prince and then by Chaka Khan.

I Feel for You” is a song written by Prince that originally appeared on his 1979 self-titled album. It became a hit single in 1984 for female R&B singer Chaka Khan, appearing on her album, which was also called I Feel for You. Prince won the Grammy Award for Best R&B Song in 1985 for writing the song. (from Wikipedia.com)

I love Chaka Khan’s version of this song. It was a hit during my senior year in high school. I remember dancing to it with my friends at school dances.

I tell you, things you learn while working on something else.

Have a great day!

1,000th Posting

Woo Whoo! This is my 1,000th posting since August 2007! Who knew that my blog would come so far?

I asked myself, how did I do that? What started off a something new and fun to do, grew into a blog that other people read (Thanks! and surprised about that too!) and a blog that I try to post something everyday. As you can tell by my postings, I pretty much blog about whatever pops into my head or what I’m thing about at that moment. There is no rhyme or reasons to my postings. And I like it like that. I try real hard to keep a positive tone to my postings. I do have those occasional rants and raves, but nothing too negative and nothing directed at a person or people.

I will continue to post and look forward to the next milestone of my blog.

Thanks for coming along my journey with me.

Update on Mission: Rage of the Yeti

Back on 11.19.2011, I blogged about the SyFy movie, Rage of the Yeti and my mission to contact one of the actors to get their 2-cents on why they participated in such movies. While I was surfing the Internet, I found this:

David Hewlett, Yancy Butler and David Chokachi Provide A Fun

Nov 12, 2011 – David Hewlett, Yancy Butler and David Chokachi Provide A Fun Look at Syfy’s.

I am still on my mission to contact on of the actors to get their take on this movie. I will post any further findings.

First Christmas Song of the Season

This year, I am holding out to after Thanksgiving to start listen to Christmas music. I just find it strange that stores start putting Christmas decorations out right after Halloween and the radio stations start playing Christmas music around that time too.

So I’m going to wait. Wait till today, November 25, 2011 to start listening to Christmas music. My iPod has over 900 Christmas/Holiday songs (not sure why I have that many Christmas songs…) and is ready to go. And for today’s post, I wanted to pick one of my favorite Christmas songs to share with y’all.

It would be Darlene Love performance of the song “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)“. She sings this song on the Late Show with David Letterman (CBS 1993 to present) and it’s one of my favorite versions of this song.

Wishing everyone Happy Holidays!

Happy Thanksgiving

Wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving! We have had the same menu since I was young. It’s one tradition that I will keep on doing!

Side note:
The Lions lost to The Packers today! Um, hope The Lions win a couple of more games this season.

The Muppets

I’m really not a fan of going to the theaters to watch movies. But I might make the exception with this movie — The Muppets. I have always loved The Muppets. I have seen all of their movies and watched the TV shows when they were on. Kermit the Frog was/is my favorite.

The Muppets (2011)

So, I might have to talk my Aunt Pat and cousin, Amanda, to see if they are going to take her kids to see this movie and if I can tag along. Not too comfortable going by myself to see The Muppets’ movie.

This and That

Well tonight was the last show of Dancing with the Stars (Season 13) and the winners are J.R. Martinez and Karina Smirnoff. I really would have liked it if Rob Kardashian and Cheryl Burke won. But since they didn’t, J.R. and Karina deserved to win.

J.R. Martinez & Karina Smirnoff

Overall, I thought this was one of the better seasons of the show, I liked most of the celebrities and dancers on the show. But there were one of two that I didn’t care for — Hope Solo and Maksim Chmerkovskiy.

Looking forward for the next season to start in March 2012.

Some other stuff:

Have you seen Sophia Grace Brownlee and Rosie that have been on The Ellen DeGeneres Show? I first saw them on The Ellen Show and the other day, Sophia Grace and Rosie were on the show again with their report on the American Music Awards Red Carpet. It was so cute! Check out their video.

Is it just me or don’t you think David Beckman‘s voice should be deeper? Oh, I wouldn’t say anything if he was standing next to me, but I’m just saying.

DWTS — Final Week

Well Dancing with the Stars (Season 13) is coming to an end and the finals were on tonight. I thought it was a pretty good show.

Here are my final two cents of the season.

I was really surprised on how well Rob Kardashian and Cheryl Burke did. Their first dance, Waltz, wasn’t their best. But their Freestyle was really good. I think this pair has improved each week and it showed in the finals.

I also was surprised that Ricki Lake  and Derek Hough  and J.R. Martinez and Karina Smirnoff didn’t perform as they have in the past.

If Rob and Cheryl don’t win, then I want J.R. and Karina to win. I think it’s time for Karina to final win the mirror ball trophy.

Here are my final picks for the season of who I want to win:

Rob Kardashian & Cheryl Burke

  1. Rob Kardashian and Cheryl Burke
  2. J.R. Martinez and Karina Smirnoff
  3. Ricki Lake  and Derek Hough

Side notes:

Looking forward to seeing Chynna Phillips, Carson Kressley, and David Arquette dance on the final show. And of course my favorite professional dance of the season — Tristan MacManus!!

Don’t care how nicey-nice Maksim Chmerkovskiy tries to look on TV, I still don’t like him for the way he acted on the show. Or is it “his” show? I get confused.

Ricki really needs to stop talking like she is still a fat person. She’s not fat anymore. I hope on her new talk show, she doesn’t talk about her being fat or comparing herself to Cheryl or Karina??

Favorite songs of the  night:

Looking forward to seeing the last show of the season tomorrow night!
