Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween! This song reminds me of Halloween.

Michael_jackson_thriller_12_inch_single_USA

Thriller” is a song recorded by American singer Michael Jackson, composed by Rod Temperton, and produced by Quincy Jones.

I can remember when this song came out in 1983. There was a special on MTV about the making of the Thriller video. I even recorded it on a VHS video tape.  It had Zombies before they became really popular in 2015.

As I am sitting her watching the video again, I’m in my chair moving like I could ever dance like they do in the video.

Don’t even get me started on how creepy Vincent Price is talking in the song. And that “laugh” he does at the end… Ay dios mio!

Side Notes:

The track was also listed at number one on “The Top 10 Halloween Songs” by Billboard.

Co-starring with Jackson was former Playboy centerfold Ola Ray.

Tony Fields (1958–1995), who was one of the dancing Zombies, was a Solid Gold Dancer from 1979 to 1984.

Halloween

I love all the creative things that people make with pumpkins during the Halloween season.

Here are a few that I found.

Sayings… Just What I Needed

Here are some of the sayings that I’ve seen posted by friends on Facebook. It’s freaky how some of these sayings are just want I need, right now in my life.

Monster Mash

Tis’ the season and the radio is already play “Movster Mash” by Bobby “Boris” Pickett.

“Monster Mash” is a 1962 novelty song and the best-known song by Bobby “Boris” Pickett. The song was released as a single on Gary S. Paxton’s Garpax Records label in August 1962 along with a full-length LP called The Original Monster Mash, which contained several other monster-themed tunes. The “Monster Mash” single was #1 on the Hot 100 chart on October 20–27 of that year, just before Halloween. It has been a perennial holiday favorite ever since. It was on the top 50 in November of 2014. (From Wikipedia)

Just like Christmad songs in November and December, whenever I hear this song in October, I know Halloween is coming up soon.

And once you hear, the song is a little music earwig that sticks with you.

Here are the lyrics… Just in case you want to sing along.

Monster Mash

I was working in the lab late one night

When my eyes beheld an eerie sight

For my monster from his slab began to rise

And suddenly to my surprise
He did the mash

He did the monster mash

The monster mash

It was a graveyard smash

He did the mash

It caught on in a flash

He did the mash

He did the monster mash
From my laboratory in the castle east

To the master bedroom where the vampires feast

The ghouls all came from their humble abodes

To get a jolt from my electrodes
They did the mash

They did the monster mash

The monster mash

It was a graveyard smash

They did the mash

It caught on in a flash

They did the mash

They did the monster mash
The zombies were having fun

The party had just begun

The guests included Wolf Man

Dracula and his son
The scene was rockin’, all were digging the sounds

Igor on chains, backed by his baying hounds

The coffin-bangers were about to arrive

With their vocal group, “The Crypt-Kicker Five”
They played the mash

They played the monster mash

The monster mash

It was a graveyard smash

They played the mash

It caught on in a flash

They played the mash

They played the monster mash
Out from his coffin, Drac’s voice did ring

Seems he was troubled by just one thing

He opened the lid and shook his fist

And said, “Whatever happened to my Transylvania twist”
It’s now the mash

It’s now the monster mash

The monster mash

And it’s a graveyard smash

It’s now the mash

It’s caught on in a flash

It’s now the mash

It’s now the monster mash
Now everything’s cool, Drac’s a part of the band

And my monster mash is the hit of the land

For you, the living, this mash was meant too

When you get to my door, tell them Boris sent you
Then you can mash

Then you can monster mash

The monster mash

And do my graveyard smash

Then you can mash

You’ll catch on in a flash

Then you can mash

Then you can monster mash

I Love Cartoons

A couple of weeks ago, I saw these pictures on Facebook and I laughed out loud when I saw them.

I grew up watching these cartoon characters. I’ve always puctured them looking the way they did when I saw them as s kid.

But just like everything in this world, everyone ages.

Whoever created these…thank you.

Elvis Presley… If I Can Dream

I have been an Elvis Presley fan ever since I can remember. I have many of his songs in my music collection. So I was excited about a new album coming out this fall, If I Can Dream: Elvis Presley With The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. It is a pairing 14 of his classics with new, orchestral arrangements.

I was first thrilled to get this album because it has my all-time favorite Elvis song, “If I Can Dream.”

But to my surprise there is a song on the album that I’ve never heard, “And The Grass Won’t Pay No Mind” (1969). The song was written by Neil Diamond.

Not sure why I’ve never heard this song before? But since I’ve downloaded it, I’ve listened to it about a dozen time. Watched Neil Diamond and Elvis version of the song on YouTube. Googled the song and checked my collection to make sure I had it.

And The Grass Won’t Pay No Mind” written by Neil Diamond

Listen easy, you can hear God calling
Walking barefoot by the stream
Come on to me, Your hair’s softly falling
On my face as in a dream
And the time will be our time
And the grass won’t pay no mind

Saying nothing, lying where the sun is
Baking down upon our sides
My lips touch you, with their soft wet kisses
Your hands gentle in reply
And the time will be our time
And the grass won’t pay no mind

Child, touch my soul with your cries
And the music will know what we’ve found
I, hear a hundred good-byes
But today I hear only one sound
The moment we’re living is now
Now now now now now now now

Young bird flying, and a soft wind blowing
Cools the sweat inside my palms
Close my eyes, hear the flowers growing
As you lay sleeping in my arms
And the time will be our time
And the grass won’t pay no mind
No the grass won’t pay no mind

If you’re an Elvis Presley fan, I highly suggest that you purchase this album. You will hear some if your favorite Elvis songs in a new way. And maybe you will hear a song for the very first time, like me. Here is the track listing:

TV Crush — Ted Shackelford

Here is my weekly post on my TV Crush — Ted Shackelford .

As a teenager – young adult, one of my favorite shows was Knots Landing. And one of the actors on the show that I had a TV crush on was Ted Shackelford who played Gary Ewing.

Knots Landing is an American primetime televisionsoap opera that aired from December 27, 1979, to May 13, 1993, on CBS. A spin-off of Dallas,

Garrison Arthur “Gary” Ewing (336 episodes)The son of Jock and Ellie Ewing, first introduced in the TV series Dallas. Gary, the middle Ewing son between J.R. and Bobby, was the family blacksheep and a recovering alcoholic. The true love of Valene’s life and father of their daughter Lucy (from Dallas) and twins Bobby & Betsy Ewing. After his arrival in California, he began working for Sid Fairgate at Knots Landing Motors, where he was eventually promoted to vice president. He was later fired by Karen after Sid’s death, and his marriage to Val was wrecked by his affair with Abby. After his father (Jock Ewing) died, he inherited $10 million and later married Abby, though the marriage ended after a couple of years. After a relationship with the scheming Jill Bennett, he later remarried Valene. (Ted Shackelford is the only cast member along with Michele Lee to remain in the series throughout its entire run, although unlike Lee, Shackelford didn’t appear in every episode). Maybe that is when my fascination with blonde haired, blue-eyed men started.

Here are some pictures I found of Ted Shackelford… enjoy!

Note:

I was raised by the TV. As long as I can remember, I have been watching TV. It was my babysitter, my friend. Something that was there to comfort me, make me laugh or cry and just veg out when I needed to. Even as an adult, I’ll have the TV on in the background.

So this post is about one of the many TV Crushes I had with the actors or TV personalities I watched.

Do you remember… School Cafeteria Pizza

I remember those School Cafeteria Pizza like it was yesterday. In elementary school every Thursday was Pizza Day. For 40 cents you could get one of those wonderful square piece of pizza.

tumblr_leo9iyae4x1qb3mmfo1_500

I would love to have one of those pizza squares today. I wonder if they still serve them at school? I might just have top check that out. Fieldtrip to an elementary school!

I did find a recipe when I was Googling School Cafeteria Pizza. But where is the fun in that?

In The Park by The JuJus

I love this song!

I heard this song on a Subaru Crosstrek Crossroads commercial and I had to find it and get it right away. It took me a while, but I found it.

I don’t know why I like it so much, but I can listen to it over and over again.

After I finally found the song (and got it on my cell  phone), I had to Google more about The JuJus. What the?!! Theyr were from Michigan!

JuJus

The JuJus were an American garage rock band formed in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and active between 1964 and 1967. Though the group was never able to record an album they are considered on of the more polished acts to originate from the Michigan rock scene. Amid several line-up changes, The JuJus managed to blend influences of folk rock and The British Invasion into their raw musical style, before experimenting in the psychedelic rock genre. Their most acclaimed piece was the regional hit, “You Treat Me Bad”, which is now deemed a garage rock classic. (From Wikipedia.com)

I need to check out getting more music that they did.

Thank you to The Jujus for a great song.

Things Your Mother Should Have Told You

You know how much I love lists. Here’s one I recently show posted on Facebook.

I like tip #15 and what are “leftover Snickers?”

image

THINGS YOUR MOTHER SHOULD HAVE TOLD YOU

1. Take your bananas apart when you get home from the store. If you leave them connected at the stem, they ripen faster.

2. Store your opened chunks of cheese in aluminum foil. It will stay fresh much longer and not mold!

3. Peppers with 3 bumps on the bottom are sweeter and better for eating. Peppers with 4 bumps on the bottom are firmer and better for cooking.

4. Add a teaspoon of water when frying ground beef. It will help pull the grease away from the meat while cooking.

5. To really make scrambled eggs or omelets rich add a couple of spoonfuls of sour cream, cream cheese, or heavy cream in and then beat them up.

6. For a cool brownie treat, make brownies as directed. Melt Andes mints in double broiler and pour over warm brownies. Let set for a wonderful minty frosting.

7. Add garlic immediately to a recipe if you want a light taste of garlic and at the end of the recipe if your want a stronger taste of garlic.

8. Leftover snickers bars from Halloween make a delicious dessert. Simply chop them up with the food chopper. Peel, core and slice a few apples. Place them in a baking dish and sprinkle the chopped candy bars over the apples. Bake at 350 for 15 minutes!!! Serve alone or with vanilla ice cream. Yummm!

9. Reheat Pizza
Heat up leftover pizza in a nonstick skillet on top of the stove, set heat to med-low and heat till warm. This keeps the crust crispy. No soggy micro pizza. I saw this on the cooking channel and it really works.

10. Easy Deviled Eggs
Put cooked egg yolks in a zip lock bag. Seal, mash till they are all broken up. Add remainder of ingredients, reseal, keep mashing it up mixing thoroughly, cut the tip of the baggy, squeeze mixture into egg. Just throw bag away when done easy clean up.

11. Expanding Frosting
When you buy a container of cake frosting from the store, whip it with your mixer for a few minutes. You can double it in size. You get to frost more cake/cupcakes with the same amount. You also eat less sugar and calories per serving.

12. Reheating refrigerated bread
To warm biscuits, pancakes, or muffins that were refrigerated, place them in a microwave with a cup of water. The increased moisture will keep the food moist and help it reheat faster.

13. Newspaper weeds away
Start putting in your plants, work the nutrients in your soil. Wet newspapers, put layers around the plants overlapping as you go. Cover with mulch and forget about weeds. Weeds will get through some gardening plastic they will not get through wet newspapers.

14. Broken Glass
Use a wet cotton ball or Q-tip to pick up the small shards of glass you can’t see easily.

15. No More Mosquitoes
Place a dryer sheet in your pocket. It will keep the mosquitoes away.

16. Squirrel Away!
To keep squirrels from eating your plants, sprinkle your plants with cayenne pepper. The cayenne pepper doesn’t hurt the plant and the squirrels won’t come near it.

17. Flexible vacuum
To get something out of a heat register or under the fridge add an empty paper towel roll or empty gift wrap roll to your vacuum. It can be bent or flattened to get in narrow openings.

18. Reducing Static Cling
Pin a small safety pin to the seam of your slip and you will not have a clingy skirt or dress. Same thing works with slacks that cling when wearing panty hose. Place pin in seam of slacks and … guess what! … static is gone.

19. Measuring Cups
Before you pour sticky substances into a measuring cup, fill with hot water. Dump out the hot water, but don’t dry cup. Next, add your ingredient, such as peanut butter, and watch how easily it comes right out. (Or spray the measuring cup or spoon with Pam before using)

20. Foggy Windshield?
Hate foggy windshields? Buy a chalkboard eraser and keep it in the glove box of your car When the windows fog, rub with the eraser! Works better than a cloth!

21. Re-opening envelopes
If you seal an envelope and then realize you forgot to include something inside, just place your sealed envelope in the freezer for an hour or two. Viola! It unseals easily.

22. Conditioner
Use your hair conditioner to shave your legs. It’s cheaper than shaving cream and leaves your legs really smooth. It’s also a great way to use up the conditioner you bought but didn’t like when you tried it in your hair.

23. Goodbye Fruit Flies
To get rid of pesky fruit flies, take a small glass, fill it 1/2′ with Apple Cider Vinegar and 2 drops of dish washing liquid; mix well. You will find those flies drawn to the cup and gone forever!

24. Get Rid of Ants
Put small piles of cornmeal where you see ants. They eat it, take it ‘home,’ can’t digest it so it kills them. It may take a week or so, especially if it rains, but it works and you don’t have the worry about pets or small children being harmed!

25. Dryer Filter
Even if you are very diligent about cleaning the lint filter in your dryer it still may be causing you a problem. If you use dryer sheets a waxy build up could be accumulating on the filter causing your dryer to over heat. The solution to this is to clean your filter with with a toothbrush and hot soapy water every 6 months.
